How did they come to exist? Well, when humans decided to colonize a planet that was thought to be habitable, it was soon discovered that human bodies did not function as well as expected.
Eager to find a way to survive, the locals decided to help the humans by hooking them into their own technological solution, and the humans woke up to their new selves, AKA automatons with egg-shaped heads.
